Kiss the earth

Kiss the earth
By Andy Brown

Running
Every day running
As my feet hit the pavement,
Shocks are sent up and down my legs
Push myself away from the ground
Only to come back down
Hit
Shock
Push
The concrete throws me into the air
Dejectedly, I come crying back
My toes kiss the earth
And I’m thrown again

This hallway
It never ends
Echoes of my thundering footsteps
Bounce off of closed doors
This hallway never ends
And I’m not scared
For I know that I’m always at home
Running in my mind

There’s no escape
My thoughts will always catch me
And at the end of the day
I can smile
Knowing that the face staring back at me
Is my own
And that I’ve played the fool my whole life
Thinking that I could run away
From my own thoughts
